After qualifying in Edinburgh in 1983 I moved to London and worked in a very busy city practice for 8 years. I moved to Hawick with my family in ’92 and became a partner at North Bridge Dental soon after, becoming the sole owner in late 2015. It is a source of great pride that my staff have remained here and worked hard alongside me to provide fantastic care for our patients for so many years.

Working exclusively with award winning Vison Laboratory we can achieve an outstanding quality of veneers, crown and bridgework. Advances in modern composite materials allow me to recreate highly realistic tooth coloured restorations, enhancing the aesthetics of fillings and broken teeth. It’s enormously satisfying to be able to improve the function and appearance of patient’s teeth and to see the difference it makes to people’s lives. Altroviso our facial aesthetic brand gives me the opportunity to offer our patients a complimentary cosmetic treatment option for men and women.

A few year back I had the opportunity to volunteer with dental charity Bridge2aid in Tanzania with my wife Gillian. We found our patients in Africa to be friendly, and incredibly stoical about their suffering. We would love to return before long and want to encourage as many of our staff as possible to participate by volunteering too. We see our involvement with Bridge2aid as a long term project for many years to come.

The provision of general and preventive dentistry is paramount, as is the education of our patients, in understanding the importance of oral hygiene, diet and lifestyle and the consequences for the health of their mouths. It is as important to me that our team helps our patients, our local community and dental charity Bridge2aid as it is in offering the best restorative care possible.

In 1995, I graduated University of G.T.Popa, Iasi, and became qualified to practice as a dentist. I continued to undertake numerous professional development courses in Romania and abroad, culminating with a specialist qualification in General Dentistry in 1998 and a diploma in implantology in 2005.

I successfully ran my own practice for more than 8 years using and progressing my knowledge in advanced reconstruction and cosmetic dentistry.

I left everything behind and decided to move to Scotland in 2011 wishing to offer a better education and more opportunities for my two daughters.

After living 4 years in the West of Scotland, I then moved to Edinburgh when my oldest daughter started studying at Edinburgh University. Meanwhile, I continued to develop and update my skills and attended a one year course leading to a Certificate in Restorative dentistry from the prestigious Tipton Dental Academy in Manchester. I am keen to progress that certificate to master level.

In Edinburgh, I worked in a very busy mixed practice and at the time was employed as an emergency dentist at Chalmers Dental Institute.

I am very passionate about my job as a dentist and I am implementing a holistic approach to dentistry as I believe seeing the teeth as a part of the whole body can influence and change the quality of my patients’ life. It is an amazing and rewarding experience to make that happen every day.
I profoundly believe in preventative dental care and keeping teeth for life as well as in modern dentistry where all the procedures should be aesthetic.

Altroviso our facial aesthetic brand gives me the opportunity to offer our patients a complimentary cosmetic treatment option from Botulinum Toxin – A injections to lip volume enhancement using Dermal Fillers for men and women.

I am very proud to be part of the team here at North Bridge Dental and I love the fact that we all have a close working relationship with one another making us seem like a small family.

I believe I have a reputation in treating nervous patients as I have worked in dental care for several years. I provide general dental care and also provide aesthetically focused teeth straightening. I am a strong advocate of patient focused dental care and tailor every care plan to each patient’s need through effectively listening to patients and explaining procedures.
I have trained and worked in the dental practice management field which mean I am able to understand the patient journey in depth and work in a strong relation with the dental team to deliver the best patient care.
Out of work, I enjoy reading dentistry books and spend a lot of time cooking. Photography and travelling are a couple of other interests I have which fill my weekends nicely.

I am excited to be starting this new chapter of my career here at North Bridge Dental. I have worked in management for the last 15 years, within the retail sector and decided it was time to progress my career further becoming Business Manager at North Bridge Dental in October 2017.

I feel I bring a positive and enthusiastic approach to my role and I am very much looking forward to what the future holds. Customer focus and satisfaction has always been at the forefront of everything I do and this will be no different for the patients seen here within the Practice

I have been made to feel so welcome by such a friendly team, its no wonder they have such a fantastic reputation. I look forward to getting to know our patients better and becoming a friendly familiar face to our new and our very loyal patients.

I live in Jedburgh which isn’t too far from Hawick with my husband Steve who is a local firefighter and my daughter Sophie who is about the start Grammar School after the summer holidays. If I recognise any of our patients out and about in the surrounding areas I’ll be sure to say Hello.

Lynn Nash
Lynn NashDental Hygienist/Therapist

I started my career as a Dental Nurse in the RAF at the age of seventeen. As much as I enjoyed my time in the military, I wanted to further my skills. I went on to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy at the University of Birmingham, qualifying in 2009.

After following my husband Tom around the country for a few years we settled in the beautiful Scottish Borders to bring up our two children, Luke and Emma who are five and one.
I very much enjoy being a Hygienist, meeting new patients and making them feel at ease during appointments, ensuring every visit is a comfortable and pleasant experience.

Joining North Bridge Dental in January 2018 means I’ll be a new face to existing patients as well as new patients to the practice. I’m looking forward to meeting all my patients as well as taking over the role of providing the highest standard of care as previously provided by the Hygienists at North Bridge Dental. Natalie Cummins
Natalie CumminsDental Hygienist/Therapist

I qualified as a dental hygienist/therapist at Liverpool University in 2010 having previously worked as a dental nurse for 3 years. My aim is to maintain and improve the standard of oral hygiene treating and preventing gum disease.

I will do my best to make your appointment as comfortable and informative as possible. I love to teach my patients about the importance of looking after their teeth and gums at home and am optimistic that by instructing them in the correct use of toothbrushes and interdental aids they will have a happier healthier mouth. I also hope it means that they will find their visits to see me more interesting as I do like a good catch up with their news.

After spending the last 11 months on maternity leave I have recently returned back to North Bridge working part time. Traveling through from Newcastle means long working days so when I’m not working I spend my down time with Luella socialising and catching up with my friends and family.
I used to be very into my fitness and enjoyed attending my local Crossfit. Now with life being extremely busy I don’t have so much time for this but I’m looking forward to getting back into it again in the future.

Lesley King
Lesley KingAdministrator/Front Desk Team

I have worked here since 1998, responsible for at times, our front desk and more recently offering Kim both general and technical support. I have always loved building a rapport with patients and although I may be less visible in reception I handle patient enquiries and triage calls for patients with concerns. I find a calm and reassuring manner works wonders and I get great satisfaction when I am able to reassure a nervous or anxious patient. My role as administrator keeps me busy and helps to make sure the practice runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Outwith work hours I enjoy walking my Westie Tilly and spending time with Family and Friends.

Sinead Riddell
Sinead RiddellFront Desk Team

I joined the practice as part of the front desk team in December 2013 and I am now responsible for the smooth running of our reception area. Previously I worked as a trainee dental nurse and this helps me to triage calls from patients with problems or in pain, to better understand the needs and concerns of patients in parallel with the demands of the surgeries. I am also qualified to work alongside the nursing staff in our sterilisation facility making sure all our surgeries are fully equipped with clean instruments.

I successfully completed and graduated with a Foundation Degree in Business Management at Teeside University and find this invaluable in organising and maintaining an efficient yet friendly welcome to our practice. I work closely with the team to develop more improvements in our customer service and welcome all our patients with a lovely cup of tea or coffee. It’s ok to drink tea or coffee before your appointment don’t worry!

In my free time I help out with the family run business on Bowhill estate. Rearing pheasants and partridge is very time consuming but myself and my husband Robert have an extra pair of hands to help us, our daughter Eilidh who has just turned two. Eilidh is great at helping to feed the chicks and making sure they are all in there pens.

Wendy Beattie
Wendy BeattieFront Desk Team

I was delighted to join North Bridge Dental in January 2018 as part of the front desk team. My role is to focus on the patients and make sure we give them the best dental experience we can.

I graduated in 2001 with BSc in textile fashion design management and went on to work for Lyle and Scott in the town for 10 years as an embroidery designer and later logistic planner and analyst. However over the past few years I have been working in retail management before having my daughter Ellie with my husband Kevin who also works within the town.

I made the decision after returning to work from maternity leave that I wanted to pull all my organisational, time management and customer service skills together and wanted to be part of a team that focus on making a difference in peoples lives. As a student I worked in a family run pharmacy in my home town of Jedburgh and therefore knew I wanted to get back in to the health sector.

Here at North Bridge Dental I feel I am part of a friendly dedicated team and I’m very happy to be involved in giving the best care and experience to old and new patients.

Ashley Elliot
Ashley ElliotTreatment Co-Ordinator and Dental Nurse

I joined and trained within North Bridge Dental in 2008 and qualified as a dental nurse in 2010. I love to get really involved with all aspects of a patient’s care, understanding what I can do to make their treatment comfortable for them and for the smooth running of the surgery. Like all the nurses here I am qualified to process all our instruments in our sterilisation room, making sure we have everything we need, when we need it. I set high standards for myself and feel confident in my ability to work alongside all our dentists and hygienist in an organised and efficient manner.

In 2016 I undertook training to become our practice Treatment Co-Ordinator which means you may not see me in surgery so much as I’m is very busy welcoming new patients to our practice and spending time explaining the benefits of more complex dental treatment to new patients and existing patients. I love helping our patients understand how many of our treatments can have transformative effects and help them feel so much better in themselves. I understand that the dentist isn’t anyone’s favorite place but I will always try my best to reassure that you are in safe hands and will be happy to speak to all our patients any time.

In my spare time I enjoy taking pride in my home, catching up with friends and spending time with my partner Jamie and his daughter Aria. I also love an afternoon drinking cocktails with the girls but I admit I’m not so good with the hangovers anymore.

It has been great to return to work here after having a couple of career breaks to bring up my young children. I first joined the practice in 1996, qualified in 1998, finally returning to the fold part time in 2013. As a busy mother with the ability to multitask and a desire to get the job done to the best of my ability, I like to take a practical and organized approach to dental nursing and aim to make the patient journey as uncomplicated and comfortable as possible. I know many of our patients as I have lived and worked in Hawick for most of my life so I feel it is reassuring to see a familiar face when someone is nervous. I have an optimistic outlook on life and work, and it’s always interesting to have a new challenge to get stuck into.

I trained and qualified as a dental nurse here since joining in 2009 and registering as a qualified dental nurse in 2011. My career as a nurse began around the same time as Ashley and I feel we have grown and developed as great nurses and friends together.
I am currently on maternity after the recent arrival of my second child Nairn. Struan is enjoying being a big brother and is coping well with no longer being the only child. I have the help of my husband Sean when times get hectic with two cocker spaniels Charlie and Oakley, and two children under the age of three I have my hands full but wouldn’t have it any other way. For now I will be enjoying my time out but will back in the near future joining our strong team and working with like minded and committed colleagues. I think friendly faces and welcoming smiles are reassuring for all our patients.
